Drone spreading services: What, Why, When?

Spreading Cover crops by Drone

WHAT:

WHAT:

WHAT:

  • Fertiliser
  • Cover Crops/Companion crops
  • Stubble Turnips
  • OSR (Oil Seed Rape)
  • Grass seed/legume mixes
  • Lime pellets
  • Slug Pellets - coming very soon!

The XAG Drone is RTK Guided

WHEN:

WHAT:

WHAT:

Early fert applications

Under-sowing:

Catch crops/cover crops- 3 weeks pre harvest

OSR - 3 weeks pre-harvest

Companion crops - OSR/Maize -post drilling

Slug Pellets-late applications/wet ground

WHY:

WHAT:

WHY:

1. Saturated ground-No mess, no ruts.

2. Crop isn't starved because fert spreaders can't travel.

3. 3 weeks extra growing time makes a huge difference in crop size/output.

4. No crop damage for late autumn/winter applications.

5.  Cheap, Efficient, Effective

Cover Cropping:

  •  Under-sowing catch crops and cover crops, pre-harvest by drone has been proven to increase Biomass/Organic matter by upto 7.6t/ha.
  • It significantly increases the Phosphorus and Potassium output from the cover crop and moderately increases the Nitrogen output.
  • Improves soil structure!
  • Saves you time in harvest
  • We only charge what it would cost you to do it!- Price available on request.
  • 8ha/ hour output

OSR/Stubble Turnips:

  • 3 weeks extra growing time aids plant growth before colder months.
  • Gives OSR a better chance against flea beetle
  • Stubble turnips are significantly bigger, giving your sheep/cattle more winter grazing.
  • 8-10ha / hour output.

Fertiliser Spreading:

  • No ruts, saving soil structure and another cost in summer to remove the ruts.
  • No delayed applications
  • Crops aren't starved because machinery can't travel.
  • Output depends on the rate.
  • We can spread anything from 50-300kg/ ha

Tried and Tested:

  • Our drone is NSTS tested
  • We tray test each product to ensure we get a good spread pattern and accurate swath width

Variable rate applications and patchwork:

  • Any VR maps can be uploaded to the drones software.
  • Patchwork and spot spreading maps can be generated and uploaded for targeted applications.
  • All RTK boundaries can be uploaded pre-flight for faster and more efficient mapping.

COMING SOON:

  • Slug Pellets are due to be passed imminently, for all major crop applications.
  • This means any late autumn or winter applications, with no mess. And applications on to potato crops during the growing season.
  • Predicted output-12-15ha/hour.

DRONE SPRAYING:

What we can spray:

The list of chemicals the (CRD) Chemical Regulations Department are passing for application via drone is ever growing. With drone spraying and spreading operations developing in UK Agriculture, the opportunities and benefits we can offer your business are developing by the day!

PASSED: Micro nutrients, Liquid Fert, Pod stick, Nematodes,

COMING SOON: Glyphosate, Blight spray

Still to be passed: Insecticides, selective herbicides, fungicides

Why use a drone?

 No mess

Better coverage and canopy penetration

No crop damage

We can access the areas boom sprayers can't

Output depends on the water rate- at 150l/ha we can achieve 4-5ha/hour.

The drones aren't designed to replace your boom sprayer, they are designed to work alongside them! And when you can't get on with manganese spraying in Jan/Feb, would you rather get 50ha/day done or nothing at all?!

Autospray/De Sanggose Pod Stick Trial:

A trial between a self-propelled boom sprayer applying pod stick at a water rate of 200L/ha, and the XAG drone at 80L/ha.

Which got better coverage?....The drone, at less than half the water rate!

Why? The control droplet applicators means the drone can create a finer droplet for more coverage and the downward draft from the rotors is physically forcing the product through the canopy!

How was it measured? UV paint was included in the mix, so when the plant were taken back to the lab, the coverage illuminated under UV light.
